Lesson Programs

Spaces for new students are limited.

Do you have difficulties when riding?

Are you following directions that just don’t seem to make it happen? Do the words “bend,“ “lateral flexion,” “lengthening,“ “collection,” and so on sound foreign?

Introducing

The Conversation of Mechanics

An innovative new program
focused on horse-rider connection,
exclusively at Beech Grove Farm.
Would you go to a foreign country without learning some of the language? If not, then let me help you learn the Conversation of Mechanics.

What is the Conversation of Mechanics?

It’s the practical application of the body mechanics of horse and rider. If your body has directed the horse one way while you expect him to go the other, then you’re not speaking the same language. The “conversation” can become frustrating and even contentious!
But what would you give to glide across the land together in perfect harmony like skilled dancers? I have danced with some very wonderful country/western and swing dancers – champions in their own right. A good lead makes your world light and wonderful. Similarly, a bad lead can ruin the whole experience.

This program is designed to to help you find awareness of your body and to understand how it affects the horse. During our coaching sessions, we will discuss the cause and effect of two bodies in movement together. Looking at it like a ballroom dance, one leads, one follows. If the leader can’t lead, the follower can’t follow.

I have over fifty years of experience with horses. Also, numerous local championships over decades in Horsemanship and Performance divisions. Being the critical, analytical person I am, I have managed to break down the art of riding to the minutia of movement.

I would love to share that with you. Personally, I think it’s the hardest easy thing you will ever do in your life. It starts with the simple realization that “we never know what we don’t know.”

I currently have openings for five clients. The individuals that sign up for my coaching can start at any skill level. The program will include one private lesson each week and one or two sessions of practice time to work on what we covered in the lesson. Participants will be responsible for the grooming and saddling of their mount. Your practice sessions will be unsupervised.

Two Package Options

Both packages include discounts for multi-month commitments. Use the button below to contact us for more information or to sign up. Please provide a phone number and best time to contact you!

If you are looking for a low-key, no pressure, “do it at your own pace” learning environment, then
Beech Grove Farm is for you.
LESSON PACKAGE POLICY
Private and semi-private hour lessons may be purchased in packages of four. Packages are non-refundable. The four lessons are to be used within 30 days of purchase. Lessons should be scheduled at time of purchase.

Notice of 24-hours is requested if cancellation becomes necessary. However, we understand that things sometimes just happen. It is mandatory to cancel by 8 am on the day of the lesson. A make-up lesson should be scheduled before the end of the 30-day period. Failure to do so will lead to the forfeiture of that lesson.

Because we work in an outdoor ring, weather conditions will determine our lesson schedule. Conditions will be monitored and, should cancellation be necessary, a make-up lesson will be scheduled as soon as possible. Please note that some make-up lessons may be semi-private lessons to accommodate time constraints.

Staff emergencies may lead to an instructor change or cancellation. Cancelled lessons will be rescheduled as soon as time permits without penalty to the student.

All new students are required to take a one hour private lesson for placement purposes.
  • All riders must wear HEELED riding boots or shoes.
  • Helmets are available for use.
Group Lesson may be available: call to request.

Please call 410-320-3330 for rates.
